Shopping in Daegu

Hello everyone! Today I would like to introduce you to several of Daegu’s best shopping areas!


1. Daegu Special Fashion & Jewelry Zone

This district is known for jewelry. This street is light with dozens of specialized jewelry retail/wholesaler shops are located. The zone is located near Daegu Station off of subway line No.1. When shopping here you will be able to find good quality jewelry at for a relatively low price.

2. Debec Department Store

There are several department stores in Daegu, but the Debec Department Store is the only local company. The other department stores in Daegu are mainly branches from companies based in Seoul. The main store is located in Dongsung-ro while the secondary store, Debec Plaza is just 5 km away. The store mainly targets younger people, while the second branch focuses on customers with higher purchasing power, thus housing more of the higher end brand names.

3. Underground Shopping Mall

Due to the different weather, it is not always easy to shop downtown during the summer and winter seasons in Daegu, but don’t worry. The underground shopping mall is located at the subway line No.1 and No.2 transfer station. This mall is a great place to escape the hot weather in summer and cold in winter while shopping for clothing, accessories, general merchandise and electronic products.

4. The Main Street, Dongsung-ro

Previously introduced Dongsung-ro Street is the main shopping area of Daegu. This street has more than 100 years of history and is completely remodeled with modern exterior. The street also recently was completely renovated with new brick work streets, wooden benches, and trees. All along this street you will find hundreds of stores full of apparel, accessories, footwear, eye-wear, and stationery. Should all of the shopping wear you out, hop into one of the many coffee shops or restaurants for a break. 

5. Shopping Street of carefree, Rodeo Street

Located just a block from Dongsung-ro, this area is very popular for the younger generation with many shops as well as pubs, bars and clubs. On this street you can purchase many different fashion items produced by local designers as well as fashion imported from Hong Kong and Japan. 

6. Herbal Medicine Shopping at the Yangnyeongsi Market

Daegu Yangnyeongsi has been the country’s leading medicinal herb market since the Joseon Dynasty and was a major source in the distribution of medicinal herbs to overseas markets.
Now acting mainly as wholesale shops for bulky herbal medicine, the market is able to provide local people with herbal medicine at a much lower price. In addition to the medicine there is also a cultural exhibition located at Yangnyeongsi Museum, where you will be able to see, feel and experience the energy of the goods from the famous Yangnyeongsi.
