On 24 to 16 January the Daegu 2011 LOC trained 110 new Team Attachés. The three day training, lasting from 10:00 to 18:00 each day, welcomed three groups of dedicated volunteers.
The Team Attachés are the backbone for the Competition Department; these volunteers are responsible for all the care of all participating athletes and team officials for the IAAF World Championships Daegu 2011.
The primary role of the Team Attaché is to keep a close eye on the team from their arrival up until their departure. During the Event, the attachés will move with the athletes and help them in their translation, transportation, meal, medical, and doping needs. The Team Attachés will be required to know all about the Competition, including the event schedule, facilities location and operational hours, athlete status, transportation, and much more.
The Team Attachés arrive early and enthusiastically begin brushing up on the competition information in the provided education materials.

The training session was led by Mr.Jung-Taek KIM from the Athletes Management Team. In his lecture he shared his expertise in competition management and explained about the stadium facilities, operating procedures, transportation, meals and medical. Steven Saulnier, and International Liaison from the LOC, whose main focus is on Competition Management and Athlete Relations gave a lesson about the possible cultural differences the volunteers may encounter.
After the lectures the group took a tour around the Daegu Stadium to become familiar with the stadium’s facilities and walked around along the Athletes Flow from waiting room to the final stop.
Despite the cold weather all of the attachés were engaged in the education. Even though the day was very busy with training, they had time to introduce themselves to each other. The group was surprised to find that a high school student was part of the team.

Participated as a translator and trainer in the Seated Volleyball and Boccia during the Asian Para Games in Guangzhou 2010. Her interest and experience in sport was very helpful in her selection and told us she will be able to better understand what athletes want.
We know you will do a great job Bo-Mi~!

This interesting character drew people’s attention due to his short hair-cut (Now an R.O.T.C Cadet). We found that this student had an interest in learning foreign languages and applied as this would be a great chance for him to use his skills. The cadet was proud of his strength, and expects tireless activity during the event.
We hope that this helps you to know how important the Team Attachés are to the competition. The training will continue in the future, giving us another chance to meet them and catch up on their stories.
Good luck to all of the Daegu 2011 Team Attachés!
