The IAAF World Championships Daegu 2011 Cultural Programmes



During the IAAF World Championships Daegu 2011, a large variety of cultural events are being planned. 


1. Welcome Night 


The Welcome Night will be a celebration for the successful hosting of the IAAF World Championships Daegu 2011. Daegu citizen and official participants of Championships will be invited to attend the festivities.


Date : 26 August 2011
Time : 19:20 ~ 22:00
Venue : Duryu Park


Major Activities : Acrobatic performances and interaction with Official Mascot ‘Sarbi’/ Spectacular Fireworks at Park and the iconic Woobang Tower/ Performances by popular Korean Idols/ Introduction of athletics stars

2. Opening Ceremony 


The Opening Ceremony is a celebration of the opening of the IAAF World Championships Daegu 2011. 


Date : 27 August 2011
Time : 18:30 ~ 19:45
Venue : Daegu Stadium


Major Activities
Marching in of IAAF Member Federations’ flags/
Classical performances by renowned Korean artistes/ 
Official Song by popular Korean singers Insooni and Gak Huh

3. Closing Ceremony 


The Closing Ceremony should be a festivity where all athletes, officials and Daegu citizens gather together to create a memorable closure befitting the prestige of the IAAF World Championships Daegu 2011.

4. Loop Festival 


The Loop Festival is an opportunity for Daegu citizens to cheer for the athletes during the road races. The festival will be held in five major points along the Marathon course.


Date : 27 August 2011 (Women’s Marathon) 4 September 2011 (Men’s Marathon)
Venues: Gukchae-bosang Memorial Park, etc
