Did you witness what happened on Aug 27th 2011??
It was the fancy Opening Ceremony to announce the beginning of the world festival.
With Women’s Marathon event, World Champs literally started, and at 7PM the ceremony had begun.
Before the ceremony, Sarbi cheering team performed for a little while. Some guests made some moves with joy.
Show host Kim Jong Suk introduced Sarbi, the mascot of the IAAF World Champs Daegu 2011.

Korean famous marathoner Lee Bong Ju had a race with some Sabsalgaes which is the model of Sarbi.
With 5 themes of ‘모음’, ‘다듬’, ‘깨움’, ‘돋움’, ‘띄움’ (‘Gathering’, ‘Preparing’, ‘Awakening’, ‘Sprint’, and ‘Dreams come true’) the ceremony revealed its spectacular movement.
In ‘Preparing’ session, the participants performed creatively showing Daegu’s welcomes to visitors.
Beautiful Hanbok, Korean traditional clothing, captured my eyes.
In ‘Preparing’, the flag bearers are at the head of the parade.
Color guard consists of foreign students living in Daegu or Kyoungbuk area in terms of world peace.
Korean flag Taegeukgi came into the site lastly.
After welcome speech of Mayor of Daegu Metropolitan City/Co-president of the Organizing Committee, Bum-Il and Lamine Diack IAAF president,
Lee Myeng Bak the president of South Korea declared the IAAF World Championships Daegu 2011 open.
In ‘Sprint’, with the performance in memory of the late Great Son (Son Ki Jung) Korean gold medalist in Berlin Olympic in 1936 in Men’s Marathon they found an echo in everybody’s heart.
In ‘Dreams come true’, the Djinns of victory made performance holding bay leaves.
It was spectacular and overwhelming.
Next, world famous Korean soprano Jo Su Mi made an exquisite stage. Large artificial full moon came up to shine in the dark and multimedia art show begun.

The opening ceremony ended with the participants flying the balloons,
Long prepared IAAF World Championships Daegu 2011 was unveiled impressively. We propose a toast to the success of the festival!
